SOLJA Hands Over Governance Policies to Three Media Houses
The Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) officially handed over governance policies to three media houses today, marking a key milestone in its ongoing efforts to promote professionalism and sustainability within the media sector. A media houses including CBA TV, Horn Cable Tv and Carro-edeg Media two policies each, Human Resource Management Policy and Financial Management Policy.
As part of its mandate to strengthen media outlets in Somaliland, SOLJA conducted a comprehensive capacity caps assessment of selected media houses to identify their structural and administrative needs. Based on the findings, tailored governance policies were developed for each media outlet to guide their day-to-day operations and long-term planning.
To formally hand over the documents, a special event was held, bringing together SOLJA leadership, project stakeholders, media representatives, and development partners.
Key Speakers during the opening remarks at the Handover Ceremony:
- Shafi’i Mohamed Ibrahim, Chairman of SOLJA, emphasized the importance of having clear and institutionalized governance policies in place to improve transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency in media houses.
- Ahmed Khalid Farah, Vice Chairman of SOLJA, highlighted how these policies will enhance internal management and help create more structured and reliable newsrooms.
- Muna Ibrahim Dhakhtar, Secretary General of SOLJA, spoke about the process of policy development and SOLJA’s strategic vision to build strong and independent media institutions.
- Natalie Cooke, Representative from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the supporting organization for the project, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes and reaffirmed NED’s commitment to supporting media governance and press freedom in Somaliland.
- Ismail Ahmed Ismail – Executive Director of SOLJA, shared insights on the journey from assessments to final policy development, and outlined future plans to scale the initiative.
- Hamse Hirsi Hayd – Deputy Director of CBA TV and one of the project beneficiaries, appreciated the support, noting how the new policies will help streamline operations and improve organizational performance.
Conclusion:
At the end of the ceremony, the governance policies were officially handed over to the respective media houses. This step reflects SOLJA’s strong commitment to promoting good governance, editorial independence, and institutional growth within Somaliland’s media landscape.
