The Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) conducted a one-day training workshop in Gabiley aimed at enhancing the role of the media in raising public awareness, particularly in preventing both natural and man-made disasters. The focus areas included combating environmental degradation, addressing the impact of climate change on the environment.

The workshop was officially opened by the Mayor of Gabiley District, Mr. Cabdirashiid Haybe Faarax (Daacad). Participants included journalists from the Gabiley region, representatives from various government departments, the Director of the Disaster Management and Climate Change Unit of the Gabiley District Municipality, SOLJA’s regional representative, and other organizational officials.

During the session, journalists received essential knowledge and skills to actively contribute to community awareness campaigns, especially on disaster prevention and environmental protection. The training emphasized the importance of the media’s role in educating the public and promoting sustainable environmental practices.
