SOLJA and Amoud University Partner to Launch Faculty of Journalism in Borama
On August 25, 2025, the Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) and Amoud University (AU) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance journalism education and skills, and to establish a Faculty of Journalism at Amoud University in Borama.
The agreement is part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and the Somaliland press association, aiming to produce a new generation of professional journalists and promote independent media in Somaliland.
The MoU focuses on advancing journalism education at the university level, creating learning opportunities for journalists in the Awdal region and Somaliland in general, and encouraging female participation through scholarships and special offers.
SOLJA Chairman, Shaafici Mohamed Ibrahim, said the agreement is a major achievement for Somaliland’s media, especially in education and training.
Amoud University President, Dr. Mohamed Muse Jibril, stated that the new journalism faculty will be a vital center for media knowledge and skills development in the country.
SOLJA’s Awdal Representative, journalist Ishqi, hailed the agreement as a long-awaited milestone.
