SOLJA raises concern over the rising number of journalists arrested
The Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) expresses deep concern over the increasing arrests and suppression of journalists in Somaliland. The Association strongly condemns the arrest of journalist Mohamed Waddiin, who was detained September 27, in Gabiley region.
So far, the reasons for his arrest remain unclear, and no court warrant has been issued for his detention, according to reliable sources at the place where he is being held.
SOLJA calls for:
- The immediate release of the detained journalist.
- An end to the unlawful arrests of journalists.
- The protection of press freedom and the constitutional rights of citizens, particularly journalists.
The SOLJA once again reiterates its commitment to defending the rights of the press and journalists in Somaliland and will closely monitor the situation of the journalist arrested today.
