SOLJA and SOLLA sign MoU

The Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) and the Somaliland Lawyers Association (SOLLA) today signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening the defense of journalists’ rights and the protection of freedom of expression.

The agreement stipulates that the two associations will collaborate on:

      • Legal support for journalists when they face lawsuits or are detained.
      • Trainings and awareness programs on media laws and human rights.
      • Joint reports and research highlighting challenges and violations of human rights.
      • Dialogues and advocacy campaigns defending freedom of expression.
        And ensuring that journalists work closely with lawyers who defend different segments of society.

The Chairman of SOLJA stated that this cooperation is a significant achievement for the press, as it provides journalists with legal protection and genuine support they can rely on. For his part, the Chairman of SOLLA emphasized that lawyers are ready to work towards safeguarding journalists’ rights and ensuring respect for the constitution and the laws of the country.

This agreement becomes a new pillar in strengthening civil society cooperation in Somaliland, paving the way for progress in the protection of human rights and democracy.
The meeting was attended by leaders from both sides.
