The Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) strongly condemns the detention of Journalist Abdikadir Mohamed (Suxufi Cishqi), SOLJA’s regional representative in the Awdal region, who was arrested in the city of Borama.

As of now, the official reason for the journalist’s detention remains unclear. However, reports suggest that he may have been detained in connection with content shared on his Facebook page involving a statement made by an Awdal politician who was also recently detained.

Journalist Cishqi is currently being held at Borama Prison.

SOLJA calls for the journalist’s immediate release and once again reiterates the importance of protecting press freedom and freedom of expression.

Journalist Cishqi becomes the second journalist to be detained since the beginning of 2026, raising growing concerns over media freedom and the safety of journalists.
